- A German bank account (IBAN). You pay by direct debit.
- Important: this is a SIM-only comparison. You get the SIM card, not a phone.
How much does a mobile plan cost in Germany?
- The monthly price. Often cheaper for the first months. Look at the price afterwards.
- The activation fee. Once only, often around €40. Sometimes waived.
Which mobile network is best in Germany?
There are only three networks: Telekom, Vodafone, O2. The brand selling you the plan is often a different one. The network decides how good your reception is — not the brand.
Your rights on a mobile plan in Germany
This is German law (TKG). It applies to everyone.
- 24 months maximum. No contract can tie you for longer.
- You must be offered a 12-month contract. That is compulsory.
- After the minimum term you are free. You can cancel any time, with one month's notice. At no cost.
- The contract now renews by one month only — no longer for a whole year.
- Keeping your number is free. The provider may not charge for it.
- Ordered online? You have 14 days to change your mind.
